PINK Breast Center in Paterson, NJ, has become the first United States healthcare facility to install Siemens’ Mammomat Inspiration Prime Edition, an updated version of the company’s Mammomat Inspiration, available since 2010. According to Siemens, the new technology improves patient comfort while reducing radiation exposure by up to 30%.

“PINK Breast Center of Paterson is thrilled to offer the Mammomat Inspiration Prime Edition to our patients,” said Lisa Sheppard, MD, medical director at PINK Breast Center. “The ability to offer women a significantly lower radiation dose during their mammogram is a major benefit. Additionally, my patients repeatedly report less discomfort during breast compression thanks to the Prime Edition. An improved patient experience may convince more of them to return for future potentially life-saving mammograms.”

The system replaces the scatter radiation grid typically used in mammography with a proprietary Prime (Progressive Reconstruction, Intelligently Minimizing Exposure) algorithm for progressive image reconstruction, reducing dose depending on the thickness of the patient’s breast tissue. In addition, an Opcomp function controls breast compression, stopping at the point of optimal compression. A Moodlight LED panel also enables color selection to create a more relaxing environment.
