MedInformatix, a provider of radiology information systems and electronic health records, has collaborated with Advanced Radiology Consultants (ARC), a Connecticut-based practice, to further enhance the MedInformatix RIS through integration with OneDX image sharing software. ARC previously implemented the company’s RIS in 2010.

The system’s existing provider portal allows referring physicians to request appointments, review reports, receive images, and transmit patient reports. Likewise, the patient portal enables patients to request appointments, enter demographic data, and review images and reports. The new OneDX integration, completed earlier this year, offers patients consistent remote access to their images via mobile devices.

The new feature is especially useful to ARC, whose patients frequently winter in other parts of the country and necessitate time-consuming follow-up to share images with other providers. The new tool will allow both sets of physicians to access patient images via the OneDX Zero Footprint Viewer solution through the patient portal.

“Now that we have integrated our technologies, it is mind-boggling to think of the hoops we once had to jump through in order to deliver patient care,” said Chris Craft, chief information officer for ARC. “The process is now virtually seamless, and issues of time and distance have been eliminated.”

The feature has also generated cost savings for the practice by facilitating sign-ups from thousands of patients weekly. ARC estimates the OneDX addition to improve the bottom line by more than $400,000 per year.
