Madison Radiology Medical Group, a 33-year-old practice in Pasadena, Calif, has implemented eRad RIS with speech recognition, eRad announced. The company is a subsidiary of RadNet.

“We’ve been an eRAD PACS customer since 2001, almost since the inception of eRAD,” said Terry Becker, MD, medical director of Madison Radiology. “Now with the availability of eRAD RIS, there are a number of options open to us—starting with integration with our eRAD PACS, voice recognition, the ability to fax reports directly, and the ability to integrate into some of our referring physicians’ EMRs.”

The speech recognition technology allows physicians to dictate directly into the RIS reporting workflow, speeding workflow and facilitating immediate release of the report to the referring physician.

Madison chose the eRad RIS in order to improve efficiency and benefit from incentive programs for the meaningful use of electronic health records. Since the RIS is certified for meaningful use, the practice will be eligible for incentive payments during the available window.

“In reality meaningful use compliance is not going to be an option in the future, so that was an added benefit. We’re going to start attestation right away,” Becker said.
