Royal Philips has introduced its digital Vereos PET/CT scanner at the 2014 annual meeting of the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) currently underway in St. Louis, Mo.

The Vereos relies on digital silicon photomultiplier detectors instead of traditional analog detectors, doubling the system’s sensitivity gain, volumetric resolution, and quantitative accuracy, according to the company. The improvements can lead to higher image and diagnostic quality and improved workflows.

“From connected devices to data-driven insights, the pace of imaging innovation is allowing us to see more,” said Gene Saragnese, chief executive officer, Imaging Systems, Philips. “Molecular imaging technology is leading the way with digital detection and advanced visualization built on insights from those at the heart of care.”

In addition to the Vereos, Philips will display a variety of technologies aimed at producing a 360-degree view of a patient and improving diagnostic confidence, including:

  • iPatient: This platform facilitates communication between the CT system and injector and aids in the delivery of appropriate contrast dose and consistent image quality.
  • BrightView XCT: This SPECT/CT system designed for nuclear medicine enables low dose levels, high-resolution localization, and attenuation correction to shorten assessment times.
  • IntelliSpace Portal: This clinical information system streamlines workflow and combines advanced visualization and analysis capabilities within a single solution.
