A 3-tesla magnetic imaging resonance (MRI) scanner from Siemens has received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the company announced. The Magnetom Prisma is intended for cardiac and body imaging and spectroscopy, while its Diffusion Spectrum Imaging (DSI) acquisition allows clinicians to view fine details of the brain such as crossing white-matter fibers.

The system’s XR gradients combine 80 milliTesla per meter (mT/m) power and a 200T per-meter-per-second (T/m/s) slew rate. Benchmark homogeneity and shimming solutions compensate for patient-induced field disturbances to improve image quality, while dot (day optimizing throughput) engines provide consistency for longitudinal and multi-site projects.

The Magnetom Prisma is available for upgrade to users who have already installed the Magnetom Trio. For more information, visit Siemens.
