A new report from the research firm KLAS confirms that as the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) market becomes increasingly competitive, the top MRI vendors are jockeying to improve their offerings and increase market share. Researchers for MRI 2013: Sorting through the Noise spoke to 192 providers to identify their top priorities among vendors. The report examines Siemens, Hitachi, GE, Toshiba, and Philips.

KLAS found significant changes from last year. Siemens, the current leader in cardiac MRI, raised its position from fourth to first place through improvements in support, service, and technology. GE’s new Silent Scan MRI, Hitachi’s Echelon Oval bore, and Philips’ dStream digital coil technology have introduced notable innovations and achieved success with providers.

“We see providers shifting their focus to patient-comfort features and more advanced applications such as cardiac MRI,” said Brady Heiner, the report’s author. “With this new focus, there is great opportunity for a vendor to differentiate itself and emerge as a leader in the market.”
