Mary Rutan Hospital, a 100-bed facility in Bellefontaine, Ohio, has adopted BridgeHead’s Deduplication for Backup and Recovery along with the BridgeHead Enterprise Backup, the company has announced. BridgeHead Deduplication integrates HP StoreOnce Catalyst software as part of its Healthcare Data Management (HDM) platform.

Mary Rutan Hospital also operates the Ewing H. Crawfis Imaging Center, the Mary Rutan Hospital Physical Rehabilitation Center, the Ewing Crawfis Oncology Clinic, and several physician practices. The facility previously relied on BridgeHead ISB/IDR to protect its Meditech data. The hospital expects the new solution to achieve a number of goals, including reducing long-term storage costs by 50 to 70%, shrink backup storage by a factor of 10 to one, and streamline enterprise SQL, Exchange and VM backup into a single solution.

“We expect BridgeHead Deduplication to deliver huge long-term cost-savings advantages to our hospital,” said Robert Reynolds, IT director for Mary Rutan Hospital. “Using BridgeHead’s Virtual StoreOnce Appliance (VSA) implementation provides an extremely cost-effective solution as compared with VTL device alternatives, plus it lets us combine it with our existing storage without being locked in to a single storage vendor. We’d already had the goal of unifying our backup to include our enterprise applications along with Meditech; when we learned about the VSA approach then the cost-savings benefits were compounded.”
