A new free plugin from SurDoc offers healthcare providers a HIPAA-compliant method for transmission of patient medical records from their own websites. Positioned as a more efficient alternative to copying and sending patient records via compact disc, the SurLink Custom Medical File Exchange Plugin lets providers deliver information to referring physicians and patients through a secure, password-protected channel.

“The number of patients who desire the ability to electronically send and receive test results and medical records will increase dramatically in the next decade,” said SurDoc cofounder Yvonne Li. “We’re equipping providers with the ability to get ahead of this trend and offer patients the best experience possible, all at no cost.”

Providers can access the plugin by copying a few lines of code from the SurDoc website and customizing it with their own information. Once the code is incorporated into a web page’s html file, the plugin will appear on the provider’s website for free use by patients and doctors. Once installed, the tool allows patients to upload files themselves prior to their first office visit, and ensures a better standard of care among imaging centers and referring physicians.

Information about how to install the SurLink plugin is available on the SurDoc website.
