doctor_infantTo help hospitals with the immediate need to gauge coder proficiency in the wake of the ICD-10 transition, Libman Education has updated its line of standard and customized Medical Coding Skills Assessments.

The assessments assist departments in the crucial areas of hiring, training, and evaluating coding proficiency. They can also be tailored to an organization’s unique needs, and test a wide variety of medical coding skills, such as ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, inpatient coding, professional fee, and home health.

“An HIM department needs to know that its current coders and potential hires have the skills and knowledge necessary to code in its unique environment,” said Pamela J. Haney, MS, RHIA, CCS, CIC, COC, director of training and education for Libman Education. “By properly assessing its coding staff, an HIM department can positively impact productivity and accuracy. It can also preempt unforeseen complications that would otherwise result from a lack of sufficient training.”

According to Libman Education, its assessments help evaluate staff proficiency in key coding disciplines, aid in employee assessments and career development, determine suitability for coding positions and promotions, and justify requests for training budget allocations.
