In preparation for the ICD-10 implementation deadline of October 15, 2015, HFS Consultants offers AHIMA-approved ICD-10 CM/PCS trainers.

HFS, a management, financial, operational, regulatory, and strategic planning healthcare consulting company, has participated in the development of ICD-10-CM/PCS implementation plans for several providers. Four trainers with the firm’s revenue cycle management practice area provide onsite IC-10 training for physicians, coders, and HIM personnel at hospital and healthcare organizations.

“We develop ICD-10 in-depth training and education programs,” said Gwynn Smith, HFS principal. “We assess organizational needs by conducting gap analyses, analyzing the financial impact of the conversion to the new coding system, and training providers and coders on the proper use and applications of ICD-10-CM/PCS, including the required level of specificity for clinical documentation to meet the ICD-10 implementation deadline.”

HFS advises that physicians and coders take a number of steps to adequately prepare for implementation, including:

  • Familiarize staff with ICD-10 code set
  • Ensure adequate policies and procedures exist for maintaining and updating patient problem lists
  • Practice coding scenarios
  • Transition forms and processes
  • Prepare referral partners for transition
  • Ensure proficiency of coders
  • Code sample claims
  • Identify re-training needs
