?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????Version 10 of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases, or ICD-10, recently launched in the United States, expanding diagnostic options from 14,000 to 68,000 and inpatient hospital procedures from 4,000 to 87,000. In a new blog post, Greg Girard, director of healthcare products at Calgary Scientific, discusses the increased granularity of patient care coding.

“While ICD-10 offers incredible benefits for healthcare reform and clinical care, it also increases work for physicians, who must provide more extensive documentation,” writes Girard. “Radiologists are expected to have almost six times the number of billing codes that currently account for most claims.”
