Medical imaging specialist Barco, of Belgium, today announced that the company closed the divestment operation of its Advanced Visualization (AVIS) activities to Toshiba Medical Systems Corporation, of Tokyo, Japan.

Details will be provided in conjunction with the release of Barco’s first quarter financial results on April 22.

Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, the AVIS group is specialized in 3D clinical software solutions, which include ‘Voxar 3D’ and ‘Voxar 3D Enterprise’. Toshiba now owns all AVIS assets, including its full product portfolio.

According to Barco, the decision to sell its AVIS activities stems from the company’s strategic refocusing of its medical imaging division. It looks to concentrate all resources on the development and marketing of medical display systems for diagnostic, surgical and clinical imaging along with custom-built solutions for medical OEMs worldwide.
