MatsumotoSIRTouting interventional radiology’s “limitless potential,” Alan H. Matsumoto, M.D., FSIR, FACR, FAHA, professor of radiology at University of Virginia and chair of the department of radiology and medical imaging, recently assumed leadership of the Society of Interventional Radiology. The announcement was made during the society’s Annual Scientific Meeting in Atlanta.

“The main focal points of my presidency will be advancing a better understanding of interventional radiology’s limitless potential and its positive impact on patient care and implementing the new IR residency,” said Matsumoto, who will represent the society’s more than 5,600 doctors, scientists and allied health professionals. “I will encourage interventional radiologists to demonstrate their vision to heal by partnering within health systems to provide comprehensive clinical care.”

Along with Matsumoto, four other members were inducted into the 2015-16 Executive Council during the society’s Annual Scientific Meeting in Atlanta.

New members include President-elect Charles E. Ray Jr., M.D., Ph.D., FSIR, University of Illinois, Health Sciences Center, Chicago; Secretary Suresh Vedantham, M.D., FSIR, Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, St. Louis, Mo.; Treasurer M. Victoria Marx, M.D., FSIR, LAC and USC Medical Center, Los Angeles; and Immediate Past President James. B. Spies, M.D., MPH, FSIR, Georgetown University Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
